Hi Noosers! Anne & Avery, here. Anne (Registered Dietitian) and Avery (NBC-HWC) write Monday “Noosletters” based on research and our experiences. We are mothers, friends, and athletes who want to share our knowledge and empower our readers to take their health into their own hands. Every first Monday of the month is free, but if you’d like to upgrade to a paid subscription to receive weekly Noosletters, we’d be thrilled!

Happy Monday Noosers! Hope everyone is enjoying this especially sporty week — from the Super Bowl to the Olympics, we are SO here for it. As a couple of former college athletes, we love seeing competition at the highest level, and admittedly fantasize about “going pro” or competing at the Olympics — sport TBD 🤣.

But beyond the sports, whether it’s Super Bowl sunday spreads or you’re packing your kids’ lunches (or hiding in the pantry from them), there’s always a lot of chatter around snacks. We get asked by both clients and friends: what’s a healthy snack? Our answer is a little complicated, but today, we break it down — our personal takes on snacks, the industry built around them, and some questions to consider when you’re reaching for something in between meals.

Do we snack? Answering as moms, people who eat, and health coach & dietitian:

Avery: When I think about “snacks” my eye starts twitching, thinking about how my kids whine, “can I have a snack?” 900 times a day.
